Facilitator: Kevin Sweeney and John Forne
Geo-coded data has been at the forefront of open government data because of the attractiveness to consumers and developers, the experience in the areas of emergency recovery internationally, as well as in the Christchurch earthquake, and the ease of use of map based tools. During this session, we will discuss how to build support for the NZ geospatial strategy and a national Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI), and highlight current and potential uses of open geospatial data.
Looking forward to the discussion session on Thursday.
Keen for discussion ideas of interest, but here are a few I've got ready:
- Amongst the four NZ Geospatial Strategy goals (governance, data, access and interoperability) and in an environment of limited resources, what's the most critical?
- What's the best way to encourage community users?
- Does geospatial represent a potential lead for open government information generally?
- Is the traditional SDI model (network of providers, discovered via online catalogues/published metadata) still the best way to promote geospatial open data?
- Does geospatial open data necessarily imply open source?
